After a short hibernation LA Priest, aka Sam Dust, aka Sam Eastgate graces us with his second album GENE. Named after an analog drum machine that Sam dreamed up and built himself, GENE is the follow-up to the Truffle Pigs’ acclaimed debut album Inji in 2015 and the collaboration with Connan Mockasin, Soft Hair, in 2016, and of course this drum machine, which Sam has been devising and inventing for over two years, is the linchpin of the album. It’s the most complete realization of his vision yet. These songs are searching for meaning, exploring the limits of their creator’s abilities.
With a juicy groove the record starts into life, strutting and sparkling, inserting melancholic interludes and taking a sharp turn to something dark and mystical in the last third.
On 28.10.2020 LA Priest will play a show in Germany in Berlin’s Urban Spree.

Tempers are a NYC-based duo comprised of Jasmine Golestaneh and Eddie Cooper. The duo’s dark, ice-cold electronica blends a sinister slow static disco with danceable beats, a hinting of pop sensibility imprisoned in an almost gothic, industrial soundscape. Tempers’ debut album Services was released in 2015 on Berlin-based Aufnahme+Wiedergabe, and was followed by their 2017 EP Fundamental Fantasy, released by The Vinyl Factory. Their most recent album Junkspace (BMG Germany, 2018) is a concept album about the architecture of consumerism, set in a shopping mall, and features architect Rem Koolhaas. Tempers will be releasing a new album fall 2019 via Dais.
From amniotic fluids to saliva, blood, oceans, and rain, liquids bring both life and death: they are essential to human life but also hold the power of submerging, swamping, and drowning. Liquids have a definite volume but no fixed shape; they pass around borders and flow with extraordinary lightness and mobility.
In the 1990s, sociologist Zygmunt Bauman coined the expression “liquid modernity” to define postmodern societies’ shift towards liberalization and individualism. In his terms, constant change and unstable socio-political structures created a chaotic, fluid fragmented world in which individuals flow from one position to another.
Today, ‘liquidity’ seems to be more than ever an integral part of human existence. Societies are increasingly ruled by temporariness and fragility, constantly urging us to change and adapt to mundane precarity, while underwater cables power our Internet cloud and global warming melts glaciers and floods our cities.
Taking stock of these conditions, Teorema’s 2020 edition invites participants and visitors to explore ideas of liquidity and fluidity as openly and creatively as possible.
Let’s get together to imagine bridges over our liquified present.
