#StillSTAND Project’s Vorspiel: Johannes Mundinger and Señor Schnu

Just before the official kickoff of our Still STAND project where 4 applications to paint the Urban Spree Artist Wall have been selected – out of 89 submissions – and will unfold over the course of June and July 2020, both Johannes Mundinger and Señor Schnu wanted to give a face lift to the wall after a long winter, and Corona oblige, actually much longer than we had anticipated.

Johannes Mundinger at Urban Spree, April 2020

Johannes Mundinger painted the large wall at Urban Spree mid-April 2020 (his third take on the wall, setting thereby a new record) with an abstract composition in tune with the “Leave No One Behind” campaign to repatriate refugee children from camps in Greece.

Shortly after, Señor Schnu took over the Wall with a vibrant composition assembling different elements from propaganda, economics, and positive symbols to make a statement: “We can’t return to normal, because the normal we had was precisely the problem” or how legitimate aspirations to “get back to normal” owing to the corona crisis must instead give way to healthier relationships and a different way to create social links.

As the Still STAND team started to get together for the first upcoming wall of the project, our drone photographer, Lukas Stiller, managed to take spectacular shots of the wall at dusk.

Milk Me presents: Catnapp Break Release Rave

Catnapp released her first LP “BREAK” on Monkeytown Records. The record includes collaborations with Modeselektor “The Mover”, EL PLVYBXY & Doxxed who remixed “Lengua”.

To celebrate, we planed a rave together with Catnapp & friends

CATNAPP (Monkeytown Records)
Catnapp (Amparo Battaglia Lopez) combines R&B, rap, breakbeat, pop, drum and bass and other genres resulting in an intense and nostalgic atmosphere with heavy beats

MAAY (DJ SET) is an Argentinian Dj/producer from Buenos Aires, based in Berlin. Her sets include an hybrid and deconstructed style between dark atmospheres, latin rhythms and emotional trance melodies. She started Djing in Trrueno venues and hosting different rave parties. She debuted in Berlin at Acud and recently joined Catnapp as her official DJ.

Mr. Manic (they/them/she) is a nonbinary identifying rapper, DJ, and performance from Philadelphia based in Berlin. They DJ and perform with the drag collectives House of Presents, House of Living Colors, and Venus Boys and with the spoken word performance project Queerdos. Their latest album, MKULTRAVIOLET was released in the Spring of 2019

BABii produces incredibly forward-thinking electro tinged pop/R&B which features skittering beats and incredibly thick, layered synths with heavy bass with a semi industrial feel to them. The lyrics are dark, yet the vocals are sweet and despite its incredible pop hooks the whole LP drips with a sentiment of loss and abandonment. BABii wowed SXSW this year playing 7 shows in 5 days and being compared to everyone from Grimes to FKA Twigs and while those comparisons give you a jumping off point, they also feel lazy as BABii definitely inhabits her own unique world.

Daisy Mortem (Napp Records) is the soundtrack of an erotic dream which ends in a nightclub massacre.
After they shared the stage with various artists such as The Garden, Infecticide, Jardin or C_C, and after they
opened for the whole french tour of Russian phenomena IC3PEAK, they are now ready to release their first full LP “Faits-Divers” on Napp Records (the label recently created by Catnapp), between gothic atmosphere, noisy experimentations and powerful rave anthems.

Nadja • Some Became Hollow Tubes • A-Sun Amissa

obnoxious ouroboros & gizeh records
presents

⊙ NADJA ⊙
Nadja (Aidan Baker & Leah Buckareff) create music that has been variously described as drone metal, ambient doom, and shoegaze, combining soundscapes, electronics, & atmospheric vocals, tempering the cacophony with an ethereal melodicism such that the listener is enveloped in a sublimating wall of amorphous sound. Nadja began in 2005 in Toronto, Canada & is currently based in Berlin, Germany.

⊙ SOME BECAME HOLLOW TUBES ⊙
A new project combining the talents of two of the finest producers of noise out there. Eric Quach (THISQUIETARMY, etc)’s looping layers of instrumentation give their music an ominous air but with the drumming of GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR and EXHAUST’s Aidan Girt sitting underneath it, their music has a familiarity that’s hard to shake even when hearing it for the first time. Industrial landscapes flicker before your mind’s eye and crumble again, and tension stretches time to the point where you’re not quite sure how long you’ve been listening.

⊙ A-SUN AMISSA ⊙
A-Sun Amissa is a music collective founded and led by Richard Knox (The Eternal Return Arkestra, The Rustle of the Stars, Shield Patterns, Glissando) that has featured an array of members and collaborators since it’s formation in 2011. Their sound touches on elements of post-rock, doom, dark-jazz and heavy drone. Recorded output has been released on Richard’s own Gizeh label as well as Belgium’s Consouling Sounds.
Live, the set-up can range from a solo performance to a full band show. Dense and heavy atmospheres provide the backdrop to the sound. Layers of mournful, melancholic and ethereal melodies weave amongst the thundering beats, deep drones and intense, heaving guitars.

Sold Out: Wolf City presents: Sulphur Aeon / Chapel of Disease / Vouna

It would be an understatement to say that these two bands have proven to be two of the most successful, accomplished and creative bands in the German death metal underground of the last few years. With both bands having dropped their respectively magnificent third release in 2018 under the egide of the ever attentive Ván Records, this is a package that should get everyone foaming at the mouth.

Whereas Sulphur Aeon faithfully carry on the work of Charles Dexter Ward to resurrect ancient horrors in the most powerful atmospheric death metal rendition of Lovecraft’s immortal work, Chapel Of Disease started their journey in the darkness of dilapidated crypts to land in territories flooded by the soothing, psychedelic and bluesy sun of classic rock – all without losing an ounce of impact or give in to the temptations of “mature” mass-marketed heavy metal. Two bands, both one of a kind and a testimony to the creative force of the current death metal scene.

They will be joined also by the Cascadian FUNERAL DOOM band Vouna

Wolf Mountains – “Urban Dangerous Tour”

The third studio album “Urban Dangerous” by the garage-rock trio Wolf Mountains opens further doors into the world of timeless pop. The characteristic features like the rolling bass or the 90’s high school rock vocals are still present, but a playground of sound experiments and skits is opened up. The songwriting seems more mature, the riffs more cheeky, the fun factor more balanced, so that the individual songs are amplified by the “hit” factor.

“Urban Dangerous” radiates an energy that increases the mood barometer considerably and can also be enjoyed in all kinds of situations. The R-O-C-K factor plays a big role whether packed in a western look, driving psychedelic blues or with classic indie punk attitude, the Wolf Mountains give the genre the esprit it desperately needs in 2019.

“Urban Dangerous” released on September 27th on Treibender Teppich Records

Doors: 20:00 Uhr, Start: 21:00 Uhr
