“Was passieren kann, wenn die Herangehensweise des Freejazz auf die Zugänglichkeit von Pop und eine an der bildenden Kunst geschulte Praxis treffen, dafür ist „Minus“ ein Fanal, eine regelrechte Markierung des Jahres 2018.“ – Spex
“Caustic, scratchy fire music” – The Wire
“Glorious slabs of noise“ — Victor Schonfield

DIE NEUEN SCHWEDEN returns this summer for the 4th time!
On Wednesday 29th of August, we are hosting a showcase at Urban Spree with three newcomer bands from Sweden.
The entrance is free for everyone.
21.00 Queen C
Together with Swedish educational institute Sensus Musik, we invite three Swedish up-and-coming bands to Berlin for three days at the end of August, take them on a fantastic and interesting music industry crawl through the city and as the absolute highlight, present a showcase evening with them.
DIE NEUEN SCHWEDEN will take a close look behind the scenes of the Berlin music industry and meet local tour operators, labels, agencies, radio stations, and journalists. As this is an educational project, the young musicians will also take part in workshops to learn useful tips & tricks regarding press work and profiling. The highlight of these exciting days is the showcase called DIE NEUEN SCHWEDEN, which the bands will play on August 29th as a free event at Urban Spree.
This year, for the first time, an exclusively for DIE NEUEN SCHWEDEN assembled booking group has selected the three Swedish artists out of 123 applicants. The booking group consists of:
Annett Scheffel (Musikexpress)
Melanie Gollin (FluxFM)
Daniel Gerhardt (SPEX)
Erin Coleman (Paper and Iron Booking)
Torben Hodan (Diffus Magazine)
Nina Howden & Steffi von Kannemann (Nordic by Nature)
Fabian Zwedberg & Johan Svanberg (Record Union)
We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Palm plays rock music backwards. Eve Alpert and Kasra Kurt’s guitars occupy themselves most often with the pace-keeping work typical of a rhythm section. Meanwhile, Gerasimos Livitsanos’ bass and Hugo Stanley’s drums perform commentary and reportage from their deeply embedded positions at the front. The band is firmly attached to the physicality of rock, but not as much its tone; their instruments tend to sound like any number of things at any given time.
None of the members of Palm are formally trained on their instruments. The band formed in 2011 at college in Upstate New York, when high school friends Eve and Kasra met Gerasimos and Hugo. In those early days, the band was just beginning to forge its collective musical identity through experiments in recording and performing live.
Their first album, Trading Basics (2015), was written in Hudson, NY, a riverside outpost where the group could clarify its intentions outside the direct influence of nearby cultural capitals. That year, the members of Palm relocated to Philadelphia, where they continue to live only a few blocks apart from one another. This proximity has facilitated a level of collaboration necessary for a sound so slippery to remain in the firm grasp of its players.
On 2017’s Shadow Expert EP, they made use of the steady hand granted by a tireless touring schedule, cutting their songs to efficiencies of pop confection without sacrificing the avant-adventurism at the center. The effort was met with praise from such outlets as Pitchfork, Stereogum, Spin, and Tiny Mix Tapes, who likened the sound variously to Stereolab, Slint, Sonic Youth and Broadcast. With Rock Island(2018), Palm excuses the company of these myriad influences with a sly brush of a hand, ushering the listener into a new domain, thrillingly strange for all its familiarity.

BERLIN MIDSOMMAR FESTIVAL 2017
for this year’s Berlin Midsommar Festival we have teamed up with the youth campaign of animal rights organisation PETA ZWEI Deutschland e.V. to present Germany’s FIRST VEGAN MUSIC FESTIVAL.
We are massively looking forward to celebrating the longest day of the year in the most beautiful Scandinavian way with thousands of people. Of course maypole, bands & DJ’s, flower wreaths, typical Midsommar games and food & drinks won’t be missing either this year.
This time, we not only mind and balance gender ratio, but also focus on a sustainable and fair attendance of our dearest furry friends and want to show that one can experience a beautiful and delicious festival completely without dead meat. For it, a good amount of local food trucks will whip various vegan delicacies.
If you have always asked yourself how a vegan herring might taste like, this Berlin Midsommar could be a particularly exciting taste experience for you.

Over the following months we will reveal more info about the line up, games, food & drinks and special give aways.
