Berlin based label Foul-Up presents the launch party for its sophomore release, Metalized Man’s debut album “Losing Your Virginity: Metalized Boy’s First Adventures in Manhood”.

Foul-Up has invited Toronto’s Egyptrixx as a special guest gracing the night with a live set just a few weeks after the release of his fourth album “Pure, Beyond Reproach”.
Since the release of his debut album on Night Slugs in 2011, Egyptrixx’s “celestial club music” has gradually moved further towards abstract territories while never departing the pulse of the club. Over the course of three albums, several EPs and multiple other projects, Egyptrixx has perfected his very own unique strain of high-gloss-industrial techno-centric sharp-edged club deconstructions.
His fourth album comes after a busy 2016, having launched the experimental solo endeavour Ceramic TL, new duo Limit (together with L-Vis 1990, co-founder of Night Slugs) and his NTS show Halocline Trance (sharing name with the record label he formed in 2015).

Also guesting the night is Ziúr, an artist that is – as her biography reads – “dedicated to combining different sonic textures and brainy beats into a functional dancefloor framework”.

Ziúr is a co-founder of BOO HOO, an open-ended Berlin night committed to fighting discrimination. As a DJ her undertaking is equally diverse, with an anarchistic approach she dismantles genre-barriers, something which is perfectly paralleled in her own productions where aggressive brutality is rendered with a strange poise.
Since putting out her self-released debut mixtape mid-2015, Ziúr’s schedule has taken off in regards to both touring and studio work. 2016 saw the release of two EPs (on Infinite Machine and Objects Ltd.) and in 2017, Ziúr will release her debut album as a joint effort between Objects Ltd. and Planet Mu.

METALIZED MAN (Live – Berlin debut)

The night in question will be presenting the Berlin live debut by Metalized Man who on the preceding day will be releasing his debut full length on Foul-Up. The album – titled “Losing Your Virginity: Metalized Boy’s First Adventures in Manhood” – finds the artist showcasing his own unique sound – alien yet familiar, fusing elements from industrial, ambient, techno and trance.
The record follows two previous cassette EPs on Danish imprint Infinite Waves, and was predominantly conceived in live sessions at the artist’s rehearsal space at Copenhagen’s Mayhem.
The album’s press release describes the artist’s sound as “rich of a spectrum that extends from the murkiest shades to the brightest hues with a zest of trancey tropes. ‘Losing Your Virginity: Metalized Boy’s First Adventures in Manhood’ reacts and evolves like a steady biotope submitted to diverse levels of pressure, constantly shifting scales and tempo – from a deep green palette of organic drops and crackles to the sleek vibrancy of multi-faceted synthetic layers – punctured by paranoid ostinatos. ‘Losing Your Virginity…’ shines for setting up its own deeply evocative cinematic playgrounds. Images rise to the surface in a deftly-manoeuvered chaos of sound.”

BEASTIE RESPOND

The urge to fuse elements from different musical periods and styles is the key drive behind the Beastie Respond moniker.
Between 2011 and 2013 Danish label Teal Recordings released Beastie Respond’s first three EPs followed by the debut album “Fictitious Nostalgia”. Over the course of his Teal releases, the artist moved from making distinct drum’n’bass tunes to having his own genre-defying sound.
While over the following years having contributed tracks to Dylan & Loxy’s Cylon Recordings and dBridge’s Exit Records, the proper follow-up to Beastie Respond’s debut full-length came in 2016 with the EP “Back to the Future” on Copenhagen’s Circle Vision imprint.
Now, once again, Beastie Respond has given his own sound a complete makeover ahead of a big new project to come out in 2017.
Expect an ADHD-fuelled melting pot of sounds and unreleased productions in Beastie Respond’s ever-eclectic DJ sets!

MISANTROP

Danish-born and Berlin-based Misantrop is the founder of Foul-Up, having released his (and the label’s) debut EP “Limerence” in late 2016.
While a first impression of the EP typically would be one of approaching disparate yet classic club-trajectories, a more detailed listen reveals that the EPs coherence is found in more subtle places – in the more introverted and experimental influences.
A set by Misantrop aims to keep the listeners alert by drawing sounds from a broad sonic territory and embracing stylistic chaos, as well as the occasional foul-up.

Orsten Groom’s “CHROME DINETTE” series to be exhibited at Urban Spree

For their last exhibition of the year, Urban Spree Galerie invites the French painter Orsten Groom to exhibit in Berlin his new incendiary series “CHROME DINETTE”. The solo show, his first exhibition in Germany, will open on Friday, October 23rd, 2020.

While being a radically independent artist, Orsten Groom has established himself in a few years as a key player in the young French painting scene, oscillating between alternative circles and museum institutions.

His first retrospective was presented this year at the ACMCM contemporary art centre in Perpignan (France) – at only 37 years old.

The Berlin exhibition brings together over 30 works, presented in two sections:

– the Large Ensemble of 17 paintings “CHROME DINETTE” (accompanied by its proverbial Divan), a danse macabre summoning Sigmund Freud, Moses and sick poodles – under the aegis of Frank Zappa;

– A retrospective selection of Orsten Groom’s emblematic large formats, a genuine «subconscious» journey with Parietal Sarcophagus allures. 

Orsten Groom’s painting is presented as “Post-Historical Cave Art”.

The famous German artist Jonathan Meese said about him: “Orsten Groom comes from the caves and the Middle Ages and keeps history alive in today’s art. He comes from the future“.

Apocalyptic Frescoes, saturated with Creatures drawn from the Memory Styx by Demented Talmudic Investigations, Carnivalesque Recapitulation of History from the Flow of Origins and Art History – His Painting roars on Large Canvases populated with Figures entangled by Mythological and Grotesque Archetypes, Danses Macabres gleaned by a Language Detective, an Amnesiac Epileptic Archaeologist. Its Material is Dense, Volcanic, inhabited like the ancient Livers of a Divinatory Ritual.

«This turmoil is similar to the one I feel in the Grottos of Lascaux or Chauvet, in front of El Greco or Picasso paintings, or, in the 20th century, facing the essential work of Gérard Gasiorowski», writes Olivier Kaeppelin, former Director of the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence and curator of his recent Parisian Exhibition POMPEII MASTURBATOR.

Orsten Groom experienced in 2002 an aneurysm that left him amnesic and epileptic. He graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2009 and Le Fresnoy in 2011. He is the recipient of several awards: Prix l’art est vivant (2019), Prix de Peinture de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts (2016) and Prix de Peinture Antoine Marin (2015). The reputed paint manufacturer Marin manufactures a colour to his name, the “Pink Groom”.

He is also a musician, author of collections of English cubist poems, filmmaker (2011 Jury Prize for his film BOBOK at the festival Côté-Court) and since 2012 author of the video cycle Les Ballets Russes.

He has collaborated with curators and authors Olivier Kaeppelin and Paul Ardenne, the filmmaker Guy Maddin, the translator and poet André Markowicz, as well as the writer Boris Wolowiec.

Hendrik Czakainski’s Upcoming Exhibition: Nonpoint Sources

Imagine that you are a raindrop. It begins to rain and you hit the ground and flow across streets, parking lots, yards, construction sites, farm fields… Along the way, you pick up litter, oil, grease, metals, rubber, dirt, fertilizers, pesticides, animal waste, and other things left behind. All of these pollutants mix with the rain and flow away as nonpoint source pollution. » (Illinois Environmental Protection Agency).

In Hendrik Czakainski’s previous exhibition at Urban Spree Galerie, « Switch Over » (2018), the famed “invisible hand” of Adam Smith finally achieved its predictable self-strangulation and hinted towards the obliteration of the age of Anthropocene. His powerful works laid bare the rusted skeletons of what was once qualified as habitat. A post-architectural world – and beyond -, in which life subsided on the fringes, a derelict, abstract  and borderless Universum, morbidly fascinating.

For “Nonpoint Sources“, his 4th solo show at Urban Spree, Hendrik Czakainski fills his large wall sculptures with the particles and raindrops of our contaminated civilization, building his imaginary constructions only to let them succumb to the invisible and poisonous streams that run through it. Huge fracture lines dislocate high density environments, Earth is scorched beyond repair, structures are flooded with colored poisons that irrigate the veins of our industrial civilization.

We do not only see the structures, we see the flooding and the elements, we see how the artist skillfully paints and distorts the structures he so patiently erected.

Orsten Groom: Chrome Dinette

From October 23rd to January 23rd 2021, Urban Spree Galerie is pleased to offer the painter Orsten Groom his first solo exhibition in Germany, “CHROME DINETTE”.

 

As a radically independent and self-managed artist, Orsten Groom has established himself in a few years as a key player in the young French painting scene, between alternative circles and museum institutions.

His first retrospective was presented this year at the ACMCM contemporary art centre in Perpignan (France) – at only 37 years old.

The Berlin exhibition brings together over thirty works, presented in two sections:
